Limited edition of 3000 numbered copies on gold coloured 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Pale Communion is the eleventh studio album by Swedish progressive metal band Opeth. The album was released in 2014. The album was produced by Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by Steven Wilson. Mikael Åkerfeldt said of the album, "I wanted to do something more melodic with this album, so there's stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall for this album." Greg Kennelty of Metal Injection said the album does not contain "growls or death metal vocals" and he described the album as "the missing link between Damnation and Ghost Reveries or if Heritage was written directly after Ghost Reveries without Watershed having ever existed". AllMusic's Thom Jurek has compared the album to Deep Purple's In Rock and King Crimson's early music.

PALE COMMUNION, which was produced by the band’s very own Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, is heralded by the lead single, "Cusp of Eternity.”


The new material find’s Opeth once again challenging the boundaries of extreme music. In a recent interview with VICE’s Noisey, Åkerfeldt stated, "I wanted to do something more melodic with this album… there’s stronger vocal melodies and more melodies overall… I was pretty consistent with that frame of mind throughout the writing process.” Recently, Metal Injection’s Greg Kennelty broke down Opeth’s PALE COMMUNION in a track by track review, exclaiming "This record knows exactly what it's doing and nails it through and through… one of my favorite records of 2014. If not my favorite record of 2014.”
