Here we have the second single from NJ's (by way of Florida) IMPULSE INT'L and it's another power pop gem. As a comparison, the IMPULSE INT'L remind me of PAUL COLLINS BEAT's ROCK N ROLL GIRL which pretty much means they play extremely catchy power pop . Their first single (also on DERANGED) received top notch reviews and this is more of the same brilliant sound.

Influenced by equal parts first wave punk and early ‘80s American power pop, it’s evident right off the bat that "The Real Kid” plays like the Jam tune "Standards” with a nice mid-tempo groove completed with razor-sharp guitar and Brit-inflected vocal delivery. The flipside, "The World Hates Me,” stands up quite nicely to anything that the Beat (Paul Collins, not English) has released to date. It’s a bit more introspective lyrically and toe-tappingly good. I’m impressed enough to seek out more, and fans of Elvis Costello, the aforementioned Jam and power-pop peeps everywhere should too. -Bryce Dunn

A new 45 from this now postal-service-land-band (I’m taking credit for that). The first A side is more upbeat garage rock’n’roll that will likely get you boogieing down to some extent. The other "A” side (which threw me for a quick loop and cracked me up) sounds more like a mid-tempo Buzzcocks song, or, I’m really tempted to say, a less melancholy Arrivals song. Do I even mean that? I just think this is the best thing I’ve heard of theirs so far. –Joe Evans III
